q1 stair challenge

Sunday 20th March 2022 saw us return to ever-popular Q1 Building on the sunny Gold Coast, Queensland. Anticipation was in the air with the easing of restrictions, and participants were able to travel from all over Australia. The event was facilitated by the very pro-active Steve Corrie (Stair Challenge Australia) and proudly supporting the charitable organisation LIVIN. To date nearly more than $47, 500.00 was raised towards breaking down the stigma associated with Mental Health.

Bragging rights were allowed when over 450 participants climbed Australia’s tallest building and conquered the 1331 steps/77 floors to reach the pinnacle and not to mention a few proud SCA members climbing multiple times.

There was a classification for everyone - Elite, Individual Runners, Teams, Buddies, Emergency Services, Schools Challenge, Fancy Dress, Walkers and for those daring to climb multiple times. Even though there has been a lack of competitive climbs it did not deter impressive results been achieved.

Sea To Sky Q1 Stair Challenge

A very special mention to the future little Champion Stair Climbers who were determined and showed us the joy and great tenacity in reaching the top!

The highlight of the event was our future stair climbers. We saw the littlies Dexter Manktalow, Benji Burgess and Bronwyn Manktelow start together and made their way up the stairs laughing, chatting and discovering new ways to climb including backwards!

We also witnessed the sons of Mark Bourne, Megan Reeves and Amber Thompson climb in their first events and their times showed us that there must be something genetic as their times were amazing! Megans son Henry in a time of 9:38 has qualified to enter the elite wave in 2023, a first!

Q1 Sea To Sky Stair Challenge 2022 — Stair Climbing Australia

At SCA we are very proud that we can offer a sport which involves all family members in any age bracket. We saw joy, enthusiasm, comradeship and a wonderful spirit as the young and the young at heart ascended the stairs . We look forward to the future where we will see our little champions on the world Stair-Climbing stage and in future Australian events.
